How to Keep Your Sanity Whilst Moving Home

How to Keep Your Sanity Whilst Moving

It’s no secret that moving home is one of the top stresses in life, just the packing is enough to send me over the edge! Moving is a big ordeal, but there are some super simple steps you can take to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. With a bit of careful planning and a plan B in place, you can sail straight through the moving process.

Whether you’re a family moving the entire contents of your house or a student moving from halls, you can massively reduce the stresses. Just make sure you don’t dwell on any potential setbacks along the way.

Give yourself enough time

Moving home at the last minute is always stressful and sometimes can’t be avoided. If you can, plan your move well in advance. This will relieve the pressure of the dreaded time crunch and gives you plenty of time to overcome any hurdles along the way. It will also give you time to come up with a plan B if necessary.

Create lists

Personally, I am a big fan of lists. I would say that most of my life is organised by a list of some sort. It’s so easy to miss something important when you’re trying to juggle so much. Creating a list will help you remember every single task that needs to be done, relieving your stress levels because you know nothing will be forgotten.

Delegate

There can be so much to do when it comes to planning and moving home. Delegating tasks to those around you is a great way to reduce your workload and your stress levels. If the kids are old enough, get them involved with the packing. If you need them out of the way on the day, call on Nanny for some free babysitting or arrange extended playdates with friends.

Pack everything properly

Imagine arriving at your new home to find that your favourite glass vase, left to you by your mother, had broken during transit. By packing everything properly you save yourself a lot of heartache and unnecessary stress.

Call everyone involved

As the moving date draws near, it’s worth checking in with everyone involved in moving home and finalising the details. Not only will it give you peace of mind, it will also remind someone who may have forgotten. Don’t forget to confirm the date and time with the moving company too.

Make sure you take breaks

Constantly running around trying to get everything done is only going to wear you out and increase your stress levels. Taking regular breaks will regenerate your physical and mental energy, allowing you to focus and be more efficient.

Stay positive

Moving home can be very overwhelming, often causing feelings of anxiety and worry. Focus on one task at a time, and solutions rather than problems. Doing this will drive you forward to the finish line.

It’s important to remember that there are certain things that you can not control. Trying to control them will only cause you extra stress and a bucket load of frustration.

Follow the steps above and you’ll breeze through the process of moving home.
